How Much CBD Should I Take? A Guide to CBD Dosage

When you’re shopping for CBD, a lot of people ask the question: how much CBD should I take?  This question is harder to answer than you might think. Dosage depends on a number of factors, a major one being your weight. Because everyone’s body is different, there may be some trial and error when gauging CBD dosage. In this guide, we’ll explain the necessary steps to find the right CBD dosage for you.

WHAT IS THE RIGHT DOSE OF CBD THAT I SHOULD TAKE?

CBD dosage varies from person to person and is largely determined by weight, body chemistry, and each product’s concentration of CBD.

To find the right CBD dosage for you, start with a small amount and then gradually increase. It’s important to take time to observe how your body reacts when you integrate CBD into your routine.

HOW TO CHOOSE CBD DOSAGE IN 3 STEPS

Choosing the right CBD dosage can be confusing, since some CBD products might have a higher CBD concentration than others, and some CBD product manufacturers do not rigorously calibrate their product for precise dosage (and dosages can vary widely) and have varying levels of CBD bioavailability. With Zolt, our water-soluble CBD mixie sticks, there is exactly 20mg of maximally bioavailable CBD / hemp extract in each packet. Several publications suggest that a 160mg CBD regimen is appropriate for most people, while others may choose to take around 20mg. The type of product, i.e. tinctures vs. mixie sticks, and how it’s manufactured also determines how much CBD actually gets into your system. We know – there are a ton of variables! Here are three main tips to help you choose the right CBD dosage:

STEP #1:
Estimate based on your weight

Similar to any substance, the effects of CBD on your body is largely based on your weight. The most common CBD dosage is 20-40mg, however this varies with each individual’s body type. It’s sometimes helpful to refer to a CBD dosage chart or CBD dosage calculator, however we found that calculators online vary in their results and recommendations. It’s important to note that even if two people weigh the same, they might have a different reaction to CBD. Everyone has a different body chemistry, so it’s up to you to determine what feels good.

STEP #2:
Start with a small amount and increase gradually

When you’re taking a CBD product for the first time, start with a small amount, see how you feel, and then increase/decrease the dose. CBD tinctures allow you to easily adjust dosage with a dropper, however it can be a little tricky to figure out exactly how much of that CBD is absorbed by your body. When taking Zolt, we recommend that you start with one product consistently for at least a week, and keep track of your physical performance and well-being. After a week or two, you can reflect on how the CBD dose made you feel, and adjust the dose from there.

STEP #3:
When in doubt, consult your physician

Before taking a CBD or hemp product, it’s a smart idea to talk to your doctor, especially if you’re taking any medications regularly. CBD can interact with medications such as blood thinners and chemotherapy drugs among others. It never hurts to get more information before you integrate something new into your routine.

CAN YOU TAKE TOO MUCH CBD?

Another question that people often have is: can you overdose on CBD? There haven’t been any reported overdose cases with CBD, however, moderation is always advisable. It’s never good for your body to take too much of anything, even vitamins. Your body can only absorb so much of what you put into it, so be mindful when you are figuring out the right CBD dosage for your body. Zolt recommends not exceeding eight 20-milligram doses per day.

Your specific health goal can also determine which CBD product you should choose.

DETERMINING CBD DOSAGE FOR A SPECIFIC HEALTH GOAL

In Zolt’s Journal, we explain the major benefits of hemp CBD products: it can be known to help manage anxiety, provide significant pain relief, and CBD tea with melatonin can be a sleep aid. If you’re taking CBD for a specific health issue, this could affect your desired CBD dosage. There isn’t an established CBD dosage for a specific ailment, like anxiety. CBD still doesn’t have an official serving size, because the FDA hasn’t created a Recommended Daily Intake (RDI) for CBD. More importantly, everyone, regardless of their size or metabolism, responds to CBD a little differently, with peak efficacy at a range of dosages. As we mentioned before, it’s a good idea to start with a small dose and slowly increase until you find the amount and regimen that works best for you.

Your specific health goal can also determine which CBD product you should choose. Some CBD products are infused with power ingredients like melatonin, which is commonly used to promote sleep. There are other natural ingredients that are becoming increasingly popular, like Ashwagandha, which has been shown to fight symptoms of anxiety and depression. Many of these ingredients have been used in Eastern medicine for centuries and are just beginning to gain popularity in the States.

WHAT IF I DON’T HAVE ANY SPECIFIC HEALTH GOALS?

If you’re trying out CBD for the first time and have no specific mental/physical goals, we suggest trying Zolt Even. It can be taken anytime during the day and consists of CBD isolate, which means that it’s 99% CBD. In other words, the product has no trace amounts of THC or other cannabinoids or hemp biomolecules. Once you start to feel comfortable with Balance in your hemp routine, consider using Peak +CBD Isolate, Morning Lemon Tea in the morning and Dreamy at night.

FINDING THE RIGHT CBD DOSAGE FOR YOU

One thing to remember with CBD dosage: your body is completely unique to you. The way it absorbs and processes CBD is different from your friend, your neighbor, or your dog. When you start taking CBD, it’s unlikely that you’re going to land the perfect dose your first try. The key is to be patient and observe your body during the trial process. When you’re feeling confident on how your body reacts to CBD, you can then increase your dosage per day and see how you feel.

As always, Zolt advises that you speak with your doctor before beginning a hemp regimen.
